Generous donation for kids Xmas wish list from CountdownWaikato District Health Board (DHB) will be able to check some items off its wish list this Christmas thanks to a generous donation of $95,668 from the Countdown Kids Hospital Appeal.
Waikato DHB chief executive Craig Climo and chief operating officer Jan Adams were at Countdown Te Rapa on Thursday 8 December from 11am to receive a cheque from Countdown Kids Hospital Appeal representatives. Mrs Adams said the Waikids child and youth service at Waikato Hospital had now received more than $500,000 in the past five years. “We continue to be humbled by the public’s generosity and the incredible spirit shown by Countdown staff in our communities. I know some of them have friends and family who have been or are in Waikato Hospital, and when they do this fundraising, it is very special for them." This year's money goes towards:
“Last year we received $103,000 which we were incredibly grateful for and it went towards buying some much needed equipment in our Waikids children’s wards.” They included:
Waikids’ wish list this year was again extensive and staff will prioritise it once they know the extent of the public’s generosity, Mrs Adams said. Waikato Hospital staff supported the appeal through weekly denim days where staff were encouraged to make a gold coin donation in exchange A golf tournament at Ngaruawahia and many other local fundraising activities also bolstered the appeal’s final tally. “Thanks to the Waikids team at Waikato Hospital who organised teams for the golf and fundraising events - but to be honest, we couldn't have done it without the wonderful staff at each of the Countdown stores across the Waikato,” Mrs Adams said.
